Dust Bunny (2025) review

Hannibal is one of my favourite TV series ever lived through. It is a masterpiece, a dark poem, an experience. And so to see the lead actor and director reunited was instantly inviting.

Dust Bunny has a fairytale hint throughout. A little Guillermo del Toro, a sprinkle of Tim Burton even. Also feint but unmissable shades of Leon. With a leaning towards playful, with comedy appearing throughout the 1h45 minutes running time in between the wonder and magical tale woven.

The cinematography is gorgeous as to be expected by Fuller (Hannibal is often visually stunning), Mad Mikkelson strong as the incredibly laid back hit-man turned protector with the other characters flowing through cartoonish as much as engaging.

At some point, it felt briefly as if we were revisiting the cannibal routine (bathroom suitcase scene) yet this was fleeting.

The film moves along at a steady pace, enough happens to keep you engaged and despite the slightly grisly elements, the overall sensation is of a very light bout of silliness dipping its toes into children’s horror spilling out into a rather chaotic, odd world.

I was amused often at the interplay between Aurora and the hit-man, smiled often and enjoyed the strangeness of the scenes danced through as the story unfolds. It’s fun, nothing more, nothing less.
