Juventus potential sales Summer 2014

Given the news has now become polarized on the world cup and the transfer market, it seems the time is ripe for considering our transfer kitty.

Our most valuable potential sales are clearly in the offensive department, so let us start there.

Season statistics – Played 23, 13 from the bench, 4 goals, 2 assists. 

Contract Ends – June 2015

Quagliarella (31) is certain to depart. Some clubs in Italy seem interested, Lazio have been mentioned several times. As have Parma, Fiorentina and Sampdoria more recently. At 31 and not having played much football this season, we cannot expect much for Fabio. Still, he is a proven Serie A scorer…so let us estimate his sale price at 7m. His wages are 2.1m.

Vucinic is next on the list.

The Montenegrin was poised to move in January, in some form of exchange for Freddy Guarin, but that move was culled at the last minute due to some typically classless Interista bullshit. I would be happy to see the transfer resurrected, yet I assume our plans have changed and we are now more eager for a straight cash sale. Unlike Quagliarella, Mirko’s reputation outside of Italy is fairly strong. He could well find suitors in the premiership, at Spurs for example. At 30 years old he still has time to excel at a top club. I expect him to go for a figure closer to 10m, though as I am aiming for the lowest possible figure we will accept (within reason) I will place his value at 8m. Wages are presently 3m.

Seba Giovinco (27) has been given plenty of chances, yet has not taken them, only excelling when facing inferior opposition. I do not feel he has a future at the club, and whilst I will be happy to see him leave, to make way for new blood, his effort has never been in question and so I wish him well.

His agent has recently spoken of interest from Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Olympiakios and Monaco. Which suits us very well indeed since several of those clubs have money to burn.  

If we are to bring in wide offensive talent, and the rumours of our interest in Morata are concrete, we must assume that Seba will be moved on, for there will be very little room left for him to stake a claim for a first XI position and at his stage of a football career, surely he wants to play and prove himself a starter elsewhere. 

I expect us to gather at least 12.5m from his sale. His wages are 2.8m.

And that completes the potential, even likely sales from our forward line. If the expected transpires, we will be bringing in…

7+8+12.5 = 27.5m in transfer fees.

whilst saving 2.1 +3+2.8 = 7.9m in wages.

Those are our most valuable potential sales, but there are others, some less obvious than found at first glance…

Whilst dependable in the challenge, and perhaps more suited to a centre-back role which simply will not transpire at Juve given the competition, it is high time we cashed in on the big fella and moved him onto new pastures. At 30 years old he still has a few seasons left to offer at a high level and should have little trouble finding at least a mid-table or higher side in Serie A to offer him regular first team football.

Mauricio Isla (25)

Season statistics – Played 27 (10 from the bench), 2 Assists.

Contract ends June 2017

We all hoped he would recover from that nasty cruciate ligament injury suffered in early 2012, and clearly the Piedmont doctors felt he would do so. Perhaps he has recovered physically, but after two seasons at the club, he has made very little progress in his quest to regain the dazzling form which saw us agree to fork out 18.8m for his services.  He has been given enough chances to impress and although we are obliged to purchase the remaining 50% of his contract from Udinese, there is welcome rumour that the fee can be negotiated to take into account the obvious failure of the player to return to the levels we had all hoped to see.

Transfer Value – His selection for the Chile World cup squad is likely to push the figure beyond 10m.

Ziegler(28)

Wages 0.8m Contract ends 2015

The curious case of Reto’s Ziegler’s involvement with Juventus will probably come to an end this Summer. Surely I am not the only juventino who finds it strange for the club to sign an international LB on a free, then proceed to send him out on loan without giving him a single competitive outing to prove his worth, in a period when the LB position was a consistent problem. Turkey to Russia, back to Turkey then to Sassuolo. Let us hope that he has a solid world cup for FIFA ranked 8th Switzerland, allowing us to make a profit on the player never deemed fit to wear the shirt.

Motta(28) – 0.6m Wages – Contract ends 2015 – Value 1m

De Ceglie (27) – 1.3m Wages – Contract ends 2017 – Value 3m 

There are plenty of co-ownerships which will likely be resolved in late June. The value of them combined is tricky to estimate. With Boakye, Marrone, Fiorillo, De Silvestro, Pasquato, Buchel, Pinsoglio, Sorensen and several others on the table, I imagine we will find another 10m of value (at least).

 Which brings us to…

Transfer Fees – 57m

Savings in Wages – 12.4m 

Simone Pepe is in need of a mention. After two years in the coffin, perhaps it is time we released him, which would go some way to saving the 1.3m wage he is due to earn for playing dead next term.

The other player who may well depart is Padoin, yet bearing in mind Conte’s penchant for the utility man’s industry and ability to follow commands to the letter, plug gaps, calm the play and offer fresh legs when we are in a winning position, I suspect he will remain. Much to the chagrin of many. However, on the other hand, his chances are surely going to be even more limited once we add more quality to the ranks. 

Padoin is 30, earns 0.7m per season and has a contract until 2016. His 25 appearances last season confirms his value to the manager. I hope his time is up. 

As a finishing figure, wages and fees combined, Padoin and Giovinco joining the exodus, we come to>>>>

Next we must take into account the definite wage rises which will be given to certain key players.

Pogba will move from a paltry 1.2m to at least 3m. Perhaps even 4m.

Vidal 3.5m to 4-4.5m.

Caceres 1.7m to 2.5m

Asamoah 1.4m to 2.5m.

And there may be some slight reductions. Storari and Pirlo will earn a little less from their new contracts.

 Which brings us to an approximate guess of 66m. From what I have gathered, we will begin the mercato with a budget of 20-30m, added to the departures leaves us in a healthy position of at best, close to 100m, at worst nearer 90m to play with.
