Gianluca Di Marzio broke the story a couple of days back and kindly included a photo of the young Boca Juniors starlet at the airport awaiting his flight to Italy, where it is reported he will sign for Juventus.
We have been chasing the 18 year old midfielder since last Summer, when he starred for Boca Juniors youth side in the Durban U19 tournament. Many journalists placed him as player of the competition, despite his side losing out to fellow south Americans Santos in the semi-finals.
Name: Tomas Pochettino
Position: Midfielder central midfielder
Year of birth: 1996
Height: 181 cm
Foot: Right
Tomas joined Boca Juniors as a 9 year old and went on to represent the club at all subsequent youth levels. His progress has been steady and he is regarded not as a flashy flair merchant but as a budding talent very comfortable on the ball, defensively intelligent with a beautiful range of passing. He is also noted for his striking prowess from distance and ability to find promising positions all over the field.
Very comfortable with the ball at his feet, Pochettino appears closest to Pirlo, with a hint of De Rossi thrown in for good measure. Whilst he must surely bulk up in muscle if he is to make his mark in the cunning realm of calcio, his elegance in possession and long range distribution has marked him out for a very long time as a future star in the making.
After first obtaining his Eu passport, he is set to attend a medical examination over the coming days culminating in his attendance at the crunch champions league tie with Atletico next week. He will likely return to Argentina before moving to Italy on a permanent basis in the New Year where it appears still undecided whether he will enter into our primavera ranks or be loaned to Sassuolo.
