Why do we have Dreams?

By tdf, June 5, 2007

why do we have dreams?
you asked yourself that before?
after waking up still scared,
by the images in the night that you saw.

maybe it’s true what the scientists say,
‘the brain is far more active in the sleeping hours of the night than in the day’.
Many cultures believed them to be me omens,
The Huns, the Greeks, the Romans.
Battles have been fought, plans have been withdrawn,
from images seen before waking with a yawn.

Where do we go when we fall asleep?
To a world exposed to the parts of the soul most deep.
A place free of constraint,
Ready to be coloured with your choice of paint,

For sure, some connection is made,
Some different notes on the spiritual piano are uncovered and played,
You can fight your demons, you can win your fights,
You can travel the world and see all the best sights,
You can do all the things that you secretly really wanna do,
Maybe find the obstacles that in your conscious life are truly stopping you.

Maybe youll be living in the sun,
Maybe you’ll be running from a gun,
But while we are in a nocturnal trance,
Speaking to the gods or hunting romance,
Memories are created,
And always to me this fact has been understated,

How can we remember so much,
Of this world we can’t physically touch?
When it’s not supposed to be real,
No matter how scared after a nightmare you feel.

You can choose to recognize.
Or you can choose to ignore,
What happens to you,
when you walk through that door,
that leads to existence beyond what we perceive,
to a different level in which we must surely believe.

Sometimes every last detail can be recollected,
Though a reason for the experience can’t be detected,
But you must search in what you know,
Cos these dreams will help you grow,
In ways I cant write in words,
On a level similar to the birds,
When a flock changes direction with no obvious warning,
Maybe if we studied animals more a new age in mental awareness would be dawning.
