Gianluigi Buffon is not only a legend of the game, one of the finest goalkeepers ever to don gloves, he is also continuing to perform impeccably at the top level. He has proven a Titan for the sport and our club and we are so very fortunate to have him. His passion for Juve, his regal sportsmanship and his galactic class endear him to far beyond the juveninti and Azzurri ranks the world over. Yet time waits for no man, and Santo Buffon will be 38 in January soon to come.
Progression and succession planning is paramount to the club’s fortunes. And as we have seen with the departures of Tevez, Pirlo and Vidal, it can lead to a significant drop in form and potency, even if great potential replacements are brought in to the fold.
We already have Nicola Leali, presently on loan at Serie A newcomers Frosinone, who has long looked to have superb reflexes.

We also have the Italy U21 keeper Emilio Audero who continues to show steady progress.
However, we have clearly been looking for a more experienced, equally if not more established option. Hence our interest in the German Kevin Trapp. And it appears that we may well have found the next Buffon, in of all places, Brazil.
At Internacional since his youth, Alisson Ramses Becker, now 23, has worked his way through the national U17 and U20 sides and found recognition in Dunga’s full senior Brazil squad earlier this year.
I had never heard of Alisson before this fateful eve, yet my initial investigation unearths clearly a Goalkeeper of stunning talent…

Roma seemed keen, but if reports suggesting a EU7m fee for a 5 year deal are confirmed, we may well have found a 23 year old with the talent and potential to move to Vinovo, learn from one of the best of all time, then take his place between the sticks. From the initial whispers in the press, Alisson is waiting only on a passport before the move can be made official. He could well join us in January, yet I will assume that next Summer seems more likely. But with his talent, and Buffon’s form, I suspect the Brazilian will be loaned to a fellow Serie A side…For surely Gianlugi has at least another season in his upper and lower paws!
