he ain’t bluffing…oh Kimmy!!

At 230AM GMT today, North Korea tested a nuclear device deep underground in the rural North Western region of the isolated Stalinist state.

The mercurial, some say dangerously demented, North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il, has incurred the wrath of most of the developed World by making good on long held threats/well publicized intentions to pursue the route towards nuclear armament. Measurements taken from all over the world gave estimates of a 15 kilo tonne detonation, which puts the ‘test case’ on par with the bomb the Americans used to wipe out Hiroshima in the 1940s.

The Korean Emporer, Kim Il Jong II
Despite the almost universal condemnation dominating the global media system, the domestic North Korean television network voiced statements inviting patriotic celebrations for
’tests conducted with 100% homegrown wisdom and technology', while their military news services described the landmark event as
'”(a) historic event that brought happiness to our military and people”. .

International Warmonger of the decade, George Bush, the man widely blamed for pushing Kim Jong Il into this corner from which he now has shown the world that he means business, had these extremely diplomatic comments to make after hearing of the nuclear blast…
‘”Once again, North Korea has defied the will of the international community, and the international community will respond…The North Korea regime remains one of the world’s leading proliferators of missile technology including transfers to Iran and Syria…Their actions constitute a threat to international peace and security.”

It was George Bush who in 2002 included North Korea in his infamous ‘axis of evil’ slur and it was his government which in 2005 blocked off 24 billion pounds of Kim Jong’s money that was resting in various foreign accounts.

The American president is in no position to be criticizing other despots when he himself has instigated two thoroughly sickening and financially orientated, wars which have caused, and continue to cause, the destruction of thousands of innocent lives(Afghanistan and Iraq), and also directly supported an Israeli decision to mercilessly slaughter over a thousand innocent Lebanese civilians and bomb the infrastructure of that same country back into the dark ages using mainly American weapons. He is a prime contender for ‘most ignorant leader in history’ and off the top of my angry head I could only suggest Jacob Zuma of South Africa as even a half-worthy rival for the obviously highly coveted position.

‘most ignorant leader in history’, George W Bush

China, who have been aiding the North Korean republic by supplying up to 70% of the country’s fuel and food, are furious about the realization of Kim Jong’s wildest dream. Especially so, because they have been almost like a paternal figure to the rogue state for many years and they recently warned Kim Jong to halt his nuclear program rather than continue along a path which would (and now has) anger the global community and de stabilize the region. But there is more to China’s concern than merely adopting a peaceful, non-proliferation stance. The last thing Beijing wants is to be forced to cut their aid and allow North Korea to fall to pieces. This would invite the South Koreans, aided greatly by American military and financial support, to re-unite Korea, effectively allowing the US to set up a huge military settlement right below China. That is a scenario which may suit the US but will not suit China. So in that case, despite the very sincere anger currently emanating from Chinese mouths, I would guess they will not withdraw all their aid and risk losing ground to the Americans.

The UK, Japan and Russia, have also strongly condemned the nuclear test and the United Nations are -right now -discussing what punitive measures can be taken against Kim Jong and his regime enforcers. Measures which the North Korean ambassador to the UN described, even before finding out what they may be, as ‘useless’, in the same sentence in which he advised ‘(it would) be better for the UN to congratulate' which is almost funny.

The wider reaching consequences of this development could see a nuclear race in the region ignited and followed all the way through to some form of grotesque stand-off, but this may not have been the goal of Kim Jong Il. Rather than global annihilation, the North Korean pseudo-Emperor may be attempting to gain respect and influence by following the example set out in the 90s by Pakistan. Before becoming a nuclear power, Pakistan was seen as a third world country in a state of constant ruin and self-harm, yet after they gained their nukes, the country gained dominance not only in the region but on the world stage i.e. it was only last week I saw the Pakistani leader, Musharaff enjoying a chuckle about Osama Bin Laden whilst sitting comfortably on a US chat show.

In conclusion…we may well have stepped one pace closer to the brink of nuclear war, but it can hardly have come as a surprise given the constant threats to do so by Krazy Kim which stretch back as far as to when George Bush made his feelings for North Korea, globally known And if I was the leader of a country which George Bush included as part of his ‘axis of evil’, which after the Afghanistan and Iraq routines it is fair to translate into layman’s terms as ‘target of the US military’, then I would not be totally against gaining a nuclear deterrent to a US invasion. In fact I may even strive to get one.

It is disgusting to see the leader of country with so much poverty and hardship afflicting the bulk of the populace, pouring valuable resources into nuclear proliferation, but on some very obvious points of consideration, I can understand Kim Jong Il’s behaviour and actions. Defence against the imperialist US being the main point to be broached.

(NB other nuclear powers are US, Russia, UK, Israel, India, Pakistan,
