I have long enjoyed SLug…Ant on the mix is one of the most under rated DJs of all time, and yet with Slug, who I have met twice or thrice, back in the motherland, whilst our hearts relate with the bambi routine with words to express our horror of our naivety, its when he is a little more awful, and cocky, that we align.
He was better when less known. Same can be said of many artists who get the fame, get the money, and then change to keep the money flowing, selling out to various degrees, even to some degree, to their own pride and ego…Slug has done this low scale, or perhaps he hasnt in any way, and has merely mellowed as he has grown and matured, and got Lady and Child and is happier with less reason to whine, more effort to make art for it doesnt flow out of him raw and rugged as it once did…
I am now too steady, dont have the kid and woman SLug has, so havent yet matured to docile and pleasant and still able to write lukewarm. My fires still burn. And i seek those who have grown without accepting or finding all they need to calm their fires and make them happy…
B. DOlan pounds with every word, every move, every breath…he is a poet howl and fang.
B. DOlan and Sage reasonably roar with their poetry. Its an assault of righteous march and stomping on sensibilities…
Adams family little lady gone DISSIDENT…
‘the compound was on fire’
‘not until you listen to Rakim on a rocky mountain top have you heard hiphop…’
Saul has his arrogance, but is fanatical regardless in his pursuit of art finding power, and ever encouraging, directing calmly, then throwing his everything into his primal beats and words to break new ground, to find the sound of his inner howl for Justice. If not something of a better world.
This is a poet.
